The word “coffee” is on everyone’s lips. Our hero, like any other superstar success story, had to go somewhere. At the age of 13, he lost the use of his left arm. During the celebrations for Nelson Mandela’s release, a speeding car collided with the crowd, wounding him.
He began his career while still in high school, singing in the school choir and learning to play the keyboard. While studying music at Natal Technikon, Black Coffee honed his skills and formed the band ‘Shana,’ which went on to release four albums. In 2003, he was selected as one of two South Africans to attend the Red Bull Music Academy, which launched his career as a DJ in South Africa.
On May 13, 2011, he married handsome actress Mbali Mlotswa, which was unfortunate for the women. On the award-winning TV show 4Play: Sex Tips for Girls, Mbali portrayed Puleng. One of Black Coffee’s most inspiring moves was to build the DJ Black Coffee Foundation, which aims to uplift and help people with disabilities.
