Gqom (Igqomu) is a genre of South African electronic dance music that emerged in the 2010s. Gqom is believed to begin in Durban, South Africa. Cultural origins in the Early 2010s, Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It Rose out of South African house music, techno and kwaito. Gqom Music beats come with a heavy bass beats without the four-on-the-floor rhythm pattern.

Gqom Music genre is believed to have originated in the Durban area, South Africa. Gqom music dance moves, including gwara gwara, vosho and bhenga. Gqom is expressed as qgom, igqom, gqomu. The word gqom derives out of an onomatopoeic combination of click consonants in the isiZulu and isiXhosa meaning a hitting drum. Many DJs embraced the new sound likes of South African rapper Okmalumkoolkat, Malumz Kole, DJ Tira, Babes Wodumo, Cherish LaLa Mankai, DJ Lag, Citizen Boy, and Distruction Boyz.
